When swollen gums are left without any remedy or treatment, the inflammation of the gums can progress and begin to destroy the supporting tissues of the teeth. More likely, it advances to a more serious gum disease called periodontitis. Tooth loss can happen once advanced gum disease is not prevented from progressing. Hopefully you will have gone to your dental hygienist in the early stages of gingivitis, however, do not wait for gum disease to become irreversible to get yourself to your dentist. Regular dental visit is important so that your dentist can recommend the appropriate treatment in the early stage of gum disease.
